Derry Clubs avoid the Prelim

Members of the Derry CCC must have breathed a collective sigh of relief when they glanced at the fixtures for the Ulster Club competitions for 2016.

In all football competitions, Derry have avoided the preliminary round and won't be in provincial action until Sunday 30th October. After the hectic autumn schedule of the past few seasons this will bring some welcome breathing space.

The Derry champions will be out in the Ulster Hurling competitions on Sunday 2nd October so this may require the fixtures committee to moderate the progress of the dual clubs as early October is often the timeframe for club football finals.
