On Tuesday afternoon the pupils of St Brigid’s and Bunscoil Naomh Bríd in Tirkane hosted the Réalta program. It is a community program for primary schools, currently in it's pilot years is funded by the Michael Madden and the GPA.
The programme is inspired by the late Jim Madden from Tipperary club Portroe and aimed at leadership, stewardship, team building and community awareness. It was designed by a cross section of county players across football, hurling and camogie. Local Slaughtneil and Derry player Chrissy McKaigue delivered the programme.
GAA has always gripped the Tirkane/Slaughtneil area and it reached fever pitch the last few years with the excitement surround the championship journey's. McKaigue explained that this programme was all about the community. "It involved talking about people that were not standout stars in the community but those that embodies the traits of being a leader in the community."
