Sligo referee Marty Duffy will take charge of Derry's first NFL game at home to Fermanagh on Sunday week. The Castleconnor clubman last took charge of Derry when they played Donegal in last year's league.
It will be an interesting game, with the experienced Pete McGrath pitting his wits against Damian Barton in this first league encounter. In the Derry/Down tussles of the 90s McGrath would have been plotting the downfall of Barton the playmaker but now they will be opposition managers.
There has been no white smoke from the Derry camp as regards naming their captain for 2016. So far it has been rotated around Dermot McBride, James Kielt, Chrissy McKaigue and Ciaran McFaul with another different player expected to get the armband for the McKenna Cup Final.
