DERRY CONTINUE THEIR NHL PREPARATIONS

On Saturday the Derry hurling team have a change of opposition in the Conor McGurk tournament after St Mary's University have opted out of the competition and have been replaced by Monaghan.

The management are actively playing as much hurling as possible to sharpen the stickwork ahead of the league. In a busy week they played Eoghan Rua Coleraine in a challenge game tonight (Thursday) and they will play Creggan on Sunday as both clubs continue their preparations for the All-Ireland Junior and Intermediate semi-finals late this month.

Eoghan Rua are very much in the dark about the venue for their game with Galway champions Sylane on Sunday 24th January. Manager Pádraig Ó Mianáin indicated tonight that a venue had not been announced yet.  This weekend his squad are heading south on a championship preparation trip which will take in a game with former All-Ireland Club champions Sixmilebridge.

Derry manager Damian Barton will name his team tomorrow (Friday) ahead of Sunday's McKenna Cup clash with Tyrone.

Elsewhere  the Glen v Clonduff game in the Ulster U21 Champions has been fixed for Saturday 23rd January.  If Derry are to advance to the McKenna Cup Final they will have to  plan without Watty Graham's player Ciaran McFaul as both games are down for that date.
